Description:

This spring the Boston String Quartet will present “Xibus”, an innovative and groundbreaking educational program that has received national broadcasting and critical acclaim by music educators, students, and media throughout the country. The Peoria Star calls it "a once-in-a-lifetime experience." The Boston String Quartet will be collaborating with orchestral students at the Zionsville West Middle School during two days of workshops, classes, rehearsals, and a final performance at the high school auditorium at 7:00pm on April 21, 2011. “Xibus” stands apart from other educational programs by providing students with the opportunity to perform alongside a professional music group. During the performance, students will perform original compositions and arrangements by the members of the Boston String Quartet.

Students will engage in workshops designed by the Boston String Quartet in conjunction with contemporary music school, School of Groove, that have been used successfully at over two dozen schools nationwide. Classes include: “Improvisation for Chamber Musicians”, “Beats for Strings”, “Improv 101”, as well as masterclasses and discussions.
